Sharon Stone decisively dismisses the possibility of returning for a Basic Instinct reboot.

      Last month, it was announced that screenwriter Joe Eszterhas is crafting an “anti-woke” reboot of his hit 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct for Amazon MGM Studios. While the specifics of the reboot were not clear at the time, it appears safe to assume that Sharon Stone will not be reprising her role to complete the Catherine Tramell trilogy.

      Stone, who was persuaded to return for the poorly received 2006 sequel Basic Instinct 2, categorically rejected the idea of returning to her iconic role when questioned by Today (via Dark Horizons) about her involvement in the reboot: “If it goes the way the one I was in went, then I would just say I do not know why you would do it,” said Stone, currently playing a villain alongside Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2. “Go ahead. Good luck!”

      Directed by Paul Verhoeven and based on Eszterhas’ script, Basic Instinct featured Sharon Stone as author and potential serial killer Catherine Tramell, who becomes involved with Detective Nick Curran, played by Michael Douglas, during the investigation of her rock star boyfriend's murder. The film was a massive success, propelling Stone to fame and sparking renewed interest in the erotic thriller genre. Douglas did not participate in the 2006 sequel, which received criticism from both audiences and critics and performed poorly at the box office.

      With Stone stepping away and Michael Douglas recently announcing his retirement, it seems Eszterhas will need to start anew with this reboot, for which he is reportedly receiving a substantial $4 million from Amazon.
