Exclusive Trailer for Nastia Korkia's Short Film Summer Premiering in Venice

Following the debut of her documentary feature GES-2 at the Venice Film Festival in 2021, Nastia Korkia returns to the festival this year with her narrative feature debut, Short Summer. This coming-of-age story, set against the backdrop of a raging war in Russia, will make its premiere at the Venice sidebar Giornate degli Autori this weekend. We are excited to share the first trailer and poster exclusively.

The synopsis reads: “Eight-year-old Katya spends the summer with her grandparents in the Russian countryside. Time seems to stand still, adults remain silent, and a war rages in the background, disrupting lives. Meanwhile, children are maturing and the clouds drift overhead.”

Director Nastia Korkia stated, “For me, Short Summer is an effort to illustrate how war and fear subtly infiltrated daily life, shaping a child's world not through overt events, but through minor details, hushed conversations, the unsettling presence of nearby terrorist attacks, and news of war on television. Preserving that fragile memory of childhood, with all its light and shadows, is crucial to me. I do not aim to moralize; instead, I wish to reflect on denial, helplessness, and the quiet courage required to confront reality. I hope this film serves as a time capsule, capturing the delicate beauty of a bygone era while questioning how society can begin to forget and turn away from its issues. It is a personal introspection, yet it also holds the hope that the next generation may choose a different path.”
