FX has released a trailer for The Lowdown featuring Ethan Hawke.
FX has unveiled a trailer for The Lowdown, a forthcoming drama series loosely inspired by Lee Roy Chapman, a citizen journalist and activist from Tulsa.
Ethan Hawke takes on the role of Lee Raybon, a self-identified ‘truthstorian’ whose latest investigation into the influential Washberg family is overshadowed by the suicide of the family's outcast, Dale. Convinced he has uncovered something significant, Lee delves deeper into the events surrounding Dale’s death, even as powerful adversaries attempt to thwart his efforts.
The cast includes Keith David, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Kyle MacLachlan, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tim Blake Nelson, and Kaniehtiio Horn. You can view the trailer below.
Lee resides and works in a unique bookstore located in the heart of Tulsa, which serves as a local sanctuary and unofficial community center. Though not an idealist, Lee is passionately dedicated to revealing corruption and exposing the city's hidden flaws, often at great personal risk. His relentless investigations frequently pull him away from his 14-year-old daughter, “Francis” (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), a bright young girl who has inherited his curiosity and yearns to accompany him on his quests. His ex-partner, “Samantha” (Kaniehtiio Horn), grows weary of Lee’s incessant inquiries but still recognizes the good in him, especially regarding Francis, the one commitment they have consistently upheld.
When Lee publishes his latest exposé—a thorough exploration of the powerful Washberg family—its release is quickly followed by the suspicious suicide of “Dale Washberg” (Tim Blake Nelson), the family's black sheep. Lee realizes he may have uncovered something important. Following the clues Dale left behind, which suggest someone should investigate the circumstances of his death, Lee embarks on that journey. He discovers that “Betty Jo” (Jeanne Tripplehorn), the mourning widow, appears more focused on her brother-in-law “Donald Washberg” (Kyle MacLachlan), a candidate for governor, than on her late husband. Additionally, influential forces are determined to prevent Lee from uncovering more.
Lee has also caught the eye of an enigmatic stranger who seems to appear at unexpected moments: the sophisticated “Marty” (Keith David) shares Lee’s admiration for great literary figures and shows an unusual interest in Lee's inquiry into the Washberg family.
The Lowdown is set to premiere on FX on September 23rd.
