28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Trailer Prepares for the Summer's Biggest Blockbuster Sequel
If it seems like 28 Years Later was just released, that's because the film premiered on June 20 and today is September 3. However, time does not stand still (especially with fast-running zombies), and Nia DaCosta’s sequel was filmed back-to-back with its predecessor. Given that Danny Boyle’s revival was one of, let's say, two noteworthy summer studio releases – featuring an outstanding, innovative contribution from Anthony Dod Mantle – we appreciate the prompt follow-up. With a premiere set for January 16, the film stars Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, Chi Lewis-Parry, and features a confirmed cameo by Cillian Murphy, and the first trailer has now been released.
As Ethan Vestby mentioned in our review, “Equipped with a range of iPhones, 28 Years Later definitely serves as an ‘I’ve still got the moves’ statement from Boyle. His frenetic energy combined with returning writer Alex Garland’s structurally unconventional screenplay results in a film that keeps viewers guessing – a significant praise for something about to hit theaters. Even if this doesn’t equate to an outright great film, per se.”
Here’s the synopsis: “Building on the world established by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later, but flipping that world on its head – Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Continuing the epic narrative, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship – with repercussions that could alter the world as they know it – while Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) spirals into an inescapable nightmare. In the realm of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the primary danger to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors may be even stranger and more horrifying.”
