Emulsion Episode 16 – Sloan Discusses Ed Wood: Created in Hollywood, USA

Ed Wood passed away nearly fifty years ago, yet his status as the world's worst filmmaker remains intact. In an age where many things can be reassessed, few have taken the initiative to revisit films like Plan 9 from Outer Space, Glen or Glenda, or Night of the Ghouls. This makes the new book by Will Sloan, titled Ed Wood: Made in Hollywood USA, particularly intriguing, as it explores Wood’s filmography as genuinely dream-like and engaged, if not entirely driven, by significant questions of identity, without necessarily arguing that Wood was a good filmmaker.

Sloan’s book provides essential biographical details, an overview of Wood's career in fiction, and a broader examination of what defines a bad movie. I was very happy to discuss these topics and more with him.
