NYC Weekend Highlights: Queen Kelly, Starship Troopers, Ben Rivers, Zhang Yimou, and More

      NYC Weekend Watch is our weekly summary of repertory screenings.

      Film at Lincoln Center's NYFF Revivals will feature Queen Kelly on Friday and Robert Wilson and the Civil Wars this Sunday.

      Roxy Cinema will showcase a 35mm version of Starship Troopers on Friday, while Andrei Rublev and Bug will be screened on Sunday.

      Anthology Film Archives is currently hosting a Ben Rivers retrospective, along with films by Dreyer in the Essential Cinema series.

      Film Forum will begin screenings of Zhang Yimou’s Ju Dou (check out our exclusive trailer debut); the Peter Sellers retrospective is still ongoing; Four Nights of a Dreamer is presented in a new restoration; and The Adventures of Robin Hood will screen on Sunday morning.

      Museum of Modern Art continues with a comprehensive retrospective of Chantal Akerman.

      Museum of the Moving Image will show Beau is Afraid as part of its Nightmare Comedies series.

      Paris Theater presents Big & Loud with screenings of Close Encounters, Interstellar, and Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm.

      IFC Center will start showing Jacob’s Ladder in a new restoration; a celebration of IFC’s 20th anniversary is back; Linda Linda Linda continues in a new restoration; and screenings of Hard Boiled, Sleepwalkers, A Scanner Darkly, The Exorcist, Fantastic Planet, and All the President’s Men will also take place.

      Nitehawk Cinema will feature a secret Hong Kong film on 35mm this Sunday.

      Metrograph will screen The Beguiled (the good version), The Godfather, The Wild Child, and Institute Benjamenta in 35mm; an Ulrike Ottinger retrospective and a Mary Stephen program are starting, while Ravishing Romy, The Rule of Murch, a Don Siegel retrospective, Happy Together, and Every Man for Himself continue their runs.
