Peaky Blinders is set to make a comeback with a two-season order for a sequel series.
While Steven Knight, the creator of *Peaky Blinders*, is finishing the post-production of the feature film *The Immortal Man*, BBC and Netflix have ordered a sequel series set in post-WWII Britain, which will explore the next generation of the Shelby family over two seasons.
*Peaky Blinders* starred Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the head of the Shelby crime family in Birmingham, as he sought to expand their power across England. The series ran for six seasons and wrapped up in 2022, but Murphy is set to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in *The Immortal Man*, which is based during World War II.
The upcoming sequel has no confirmed title yet, whether it will retain the *Peaky Blinders* name or adopt a new one, but it will be set in Birmingham after the war, as the Blinders and other factions compete to reshape the city according to their desires. The official synopsis states:
In 1953 Britain, following extensive bombing during WWII, Birmingham is constructing a brighter future with concrete and steel. In this new era of Steven Knight’s *Peaky Blinders*, the battle for control over Birmingham’s grand reconstruction project turns into a fierce contest with legendary stakes. This city presents unparalleled opportunities and peril, with the Shelby family at its blood-soaked core.
“I’m excited to announce this new chapter in the *Peaky Blinders* saga,” Knight remarked. “Once again rooted in Birmingham, it will depict a city rising from the debris of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys are now in charge, and it’s going to be an exhilarating journey.”
At this moment, it is unclear whether Murphy will appear in the sequel series to avoid revealing Tommy’s potential fate in *The Immortal Man*, although he will serve as an executive producer alongside Knight. The series will be produced by Garrison Drama and Kudos, the studio behind *Peaky Blinders*.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be starting a new chapter of *Peaky Blinders* with our fantastic partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama, and the BBC,” said Mona Qureshi from Netflix. “Few contemporary storytellers can match Steven Knight, and we will be eagerly anticipating his return to the streets of Birmingham and the subsequent generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated once again!”
“This groundbreaking show made a significant impression when it first aired 12 years ago and is among the BBC’s most cherished dramas,” commented Lindsay Salt, BBC’s Director of Drama. “Steven has performed his magic yet again and I’m excited for his scripts to come to life when filming begins in Birmingham. We are thrilled to collaborate with Kudos, Garrison Drama, and Netflix on this monumental series. There’s plenty of drama for *Peaky* fans to anticipate!”
“*Peaky Blinders* is one of the most iconic and era-defining dramas of our time, and Banijay UK is proud to be part of making Steven Knight’s vision for the epic next chapters a reality. With a brilliant new production partnership led by Karen Wilson at Kudos and Jamie Glazebrook from Garrison Drama, the story of the next generation of Shelbys is sure to captivate both old and new *Peaky* fans,” stated Banijay UK CEO Patrick Holland.
In addition to being in post-production for *The Immortal Man*, Knight will also write the next *James Bond 007* film for director Denis Villeneuve. *The Immortal Man* is set to be released in 2026.
