New to Streaming: Mr. Scorsese, The Ideal Neighbor, and My Grand Bold Beautiful Adventure
Each week, we showcase the notable titles that have recently become available on streaming services in the United States. Check out this week’s picks below and find previous selections here.
My Big Bold Beautiful Journey (Kogonada)
A consistent theme in Kogonada’s films is his profound interest in sparse, deeply human character explorations set within carefully crafted environments. As a sweeping romantic fantasy, My Big Bold Beautiful Journey is less rooted in realism than the subtle modernist settings of Columbus or the pragmatic futurism found in After Yang, but its structure shares some similarities. The film intentionally divorces itself from reality, presenting a polished imitation of a familiar world, embracing a Pinterest-style aesthetic that contrasts with the characters’ somber self-discovery journeys. – Conor O. Mr. Scorsese (Rebecca Miller)
It seems that Martin Scorsese has finally chosen his next feature, but a cinephile's dream has just landed. Over five hours, Rebecca Miller engaged in discussions with Scorsese and notable figures like Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Rodrigo Prieto, Isabella Rossellini, Thelma Schoonmaker, Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Josh Safdie, and many others to document the famed director’s life and career. After its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, Mr. Scorsese is now available for streaming.

The Perfect Neighbor (Geeta Gandbhir)
Receiving wider attention in 2005 with the enactment of Florida's stand-your-ground law, which permits property owners to employ deadly force to protect their homes from intruders, has led to an increase in homicides and demonstrated racial biases regarding the number of white shooters and Black victims. Although a documentary could delve into the vast data and cases surrounding this issue, Geeta Gandbhir’s compelling and distressing The Perfect Neighbor takes a deliberately narrow focus, examining a single Florida case primarily through police bodycam and CCTV interrogation footage. An initial police call regarding a neighbor upset about children trespassing escalates shockingly in an instant; Gandbhir allows the footage to convey the story, resulting in a documentary that is far more disturbing and impactful than any number of interview segments could achieve. – Jordan R.
