Canadian drama The Granville Girls is set to arrive on Netflix.

Following the success of North of North, Netflix has commissioned a new Canadian drama titled The Granville Girls from Adriana Maggs (Frontier) and the production company Shaftesbury, known for Murdoch Mysteries.

The Granville Girls will be based on Cat Cahill’s The Gilbert Girls book series. This romantic drama will centre around a young woman who secures a prestigious job at a hotel as the railway project across the Canadian Rockies advances. While working there, she breaks the rules by engaging in a relationship with one of the male employees. The official synopsis states:

As the grand railway expands through the Canadian Rockies, Emma Daniels becomes a ‘Granville Girl,’ one of the few women employed at the Granville Hotel. The position brings adventure, camaraderie, and a chance to provide for her family—if she can adhere to the hotel’s strictest rule: never associate with the men. However, when Emma falls for the hotel’s enigmatic builder, she must make a decision that could jeopardize everything.

Maggs will serve as the showrunner and writer for the series under Shaftesbury’s production. Christina Jennings, the founder and president of Shaftesbury, will take on the role of executive producer. “Shaftesbury is thrilled to collaborate with Netflix and showrunner Adriana Maggs to bring The Granville Girls to life,” Jennings stated. “Audiences worldwide will experience the beauty of the Rocky Mountains — an ideal backdrop for our young women to embark on journeys of adventure, friendship, and romance.”

“The Granville Girls is an expansive, uplifting series that captures the warmth of female friendship and the excitement of period romance,” said Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, Netflix’s Directors of Content in Canada. “With Adriana’s unique perspective and Christina’s strong producing skills, we believe audiences will be captivated from the very first episode.”
