Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming Luther film.

John Luther is set to return for a new feature film on Netflix, with Idris Elba reprising his iconic role. He will be joined once again by Dermot Crowley as DCI Martin Schenk and Ruth Wilson as the highly intelligent sociopath Alice Morgan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Elba has consistently portrayed DCI John Luther through the five series of *Luther*, showcasing a brilliant and intuitive detective who operates within a moral grey area to solve cases. Wilson played Alice Morgan in every series except the fourth, characterizing her as an equally brilliant yet lethal sociopath who entangled herself with Luther during a murder scene she orchestrated disguised as a home invasion. Their relationship evolved into an unusual friendship, with Alice's more pragmatic approach to problem-solving often clashing with Luther’s. By the conclusion of the fifth series, she was thought to be dead.

Crowley portrayed Martin Schenk, Luther’s boss and friend, who holds more rigid beliefs about right and wrong but trusts Luther’s commitment to justice and his investigative skills. Elba and Crowley reprised their roles in *Luther: The Fallen Sun*, where they investigated a merciless serial killer and his network of accomplices.

The upcoming *Luther* film will be penned by creator Neil Cross and will center on “a new wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hitting London, calling Luther back into action secretly. The central dilemma is, how can Luther save London when those on every side seem intent on taking his life?” Jamie Payne, who directed several *Luther* episodes as well as *The Fallen Sun*, will helm the project.

“Luther, Alice, and Schenk are more than just characters to me; they’re family,” Cross stated during the announcement. “I constantly ponder their whereabouts, their fates ... and the horrors that might be lurking in the shadows of London while Luther is away. So, we decided to reunite and discover what happens next.”

“Neil has once again crafted a wonderfully dark narrative to bring us all back together,” said Payne. “It brings me immense joy to return to the streets of Lutherland alongside the incredible talents of Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley. I am also excited to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, portrayed by the exceptionally talented Ruth Wilson.”
