Big Finish Productions has embraced the festive season with the release of Doctor Who: Christmas – It’s a Wonderful War and Other Stories. This new collection features four original full-cast audio adventures set throughout the Whoniverse, including stories for the Sixth and Eighth Doctors, as well as Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, and other beloved characters.
Christmas is celebrated across time and space, but it also presents an opportunity for monsters and alien invaders to take advantage of humanity's momentary lapse in vigilance. Fortunately, in the following four stories, the Doctor or one of his companions is close at hand.
In Unholy Night – a Missy adventure by Noga Flaishon, Missy finds herself stranded on the icy planet of Jul, facing her worst nightmare. The residents of the Noel Falls settlement are overly welcoming, adorned with festive decorations and grand celebrations. However, the village holds a dark secret: once you arrive, you can never leave. To maintain her sanity, Missy will have to summon all her cunning and malice to escape.
This story features Michelle Gomez as Missy, alongside Simon Kane, Paul Bown, Frances Jeater, Roxanne Morgan, Harry Myers, and Beth Chalmers.
In Legacy of Blood – a Sixth Doctor, Ellie Higson, and Leela adventure by Julian Richards, Ellie is haunted by memories of her youth spent with Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot. When drawn to Dunstanton-on-Thames, Ellie reunites with the Sixth Doctor as he seeks to confront an ancient evil.
Colin Baker returns as the beloved Sixth Doctor, with Louise Jameson as Leela and Lisa Bowerman portraying Ellie Higson. The cast also includes Harriet Kershaw, Nicholas Briggs, Joanna Monro, and Holly Jackson-Walters.
Presents of Mind by Mark Wright features Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan visiting Aunt Lavinia’s house. However, when their train is halted by a chilling alien attack, the duo worries about making it home for Christmas.
This story showcases the talents of Sadie Miller and Sarah as Sarah Jane, Christopher Naylor as Harry, John Leeson as K9, and Annette Badland as Lavinia.
Lastly, It’s a Wonderful War by Jonathan S Powell is a Time War-era adventure with the Eighth Doctor, who acts as a guardian angel, rescuing Foreman Galen Smith and his people from the Daleks.
Paul McGann reprises his role as the Eighth Doctor, with Nicholas Briggs voicing the Daleks. The cast also includes Rosemary Ashe, Richard David-Caine, Cassie Bradley, Andrew Wincott, Beth Chalmers, Jonathan S Powell, and Alan Cox.
