      Although it would be preferable to discover this as a surprise while watching the movie for the first time, it has been confirmed that original Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles in Lionsgate’s second prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

      How can this be possible given that the story takes place 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games? According to Deadline, there is a scene in Suzanne Collins' book where Haymitch Abernathy (portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original films) reflects on his experience in The Hunger Games to an adult Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson).

      In Sunrise on the Reaping, Joseph Zada (We Were Liars) will portray the young Haymitch Abernathy, along with Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

      Scheduled for release in November next year, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will once again be directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence (The Long Walk). The film will focus on the events surrounding the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also referred to as the Second Quarter Quell, where twice the number of tributes are chosen, requiring 48 children to fight for their survival in the arena.
