Marvel’s Star Wars: Shadow of Maul will act as a precursor to the animated series Maul – Shadow Lord.

      Marvel Comics has revealed its plans to introduce LucasFilm's upcoming Disney+ animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord with a five-issue prequel series titled Star Wars: Shadow of Maul. This series is written by Benjamin Percy (Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red) and illustrated by Madibek Musabekov (Star Wars: Jedi Knights).

      "I've mentioned it before: I'm a huge Star Wars fan," stated Percy. "My past projects in this galaxy—including Darth Maul – Black, White, and Red and Boba Fett – Black, White, and Red—were a true joy. However, those were standalone issues. They were light engagements with the franchise. With Shadow of Maul, I have the opportunity to tell a broader story about one of my favorite characters while also examining a new perspective on the Star Wars universe."

      "This narrative is a sci-fi tale, but it also delves into the crime genre," Percy added. "It revolves around law enforcement, criminal organizations, and a neon-lit, shadowy city that conceals numerous sins and secrets. I'm collaborating with an artist who is already a legendary veteran of Star Wars: Madibek Musabekov. His artwork is gritty and anchored in reality, perfectly aligning with the noir atmosphere. We have been in close communication with Lucasfilm—reviewing scripts and watching episodes of this exciting new animated series—ensuring that our story will serve as a precursor to what viewers can expect to see on screen."
