Katie Aselton and Daveed Diggs Discover Freedom in the First Trailer for Magic Hour.

This year at SXSW, Katie Aselton is presenting Their Town (our review here), while her earlier film, Magic Hour, which debuted at the festival last year, is set for a theatrical release this summer. Co-written by Aselton and her husband, Mark Duplass, the drama features Aselton, Daveed Diggs, Brad Garrett, and Susan Sullivan. Greenwich Entertainment has released the first trailer in anticipation of a May 15 launch.

The brief synopsis reads: “Charlie and Erin escape to the desert to navigate an unexpected and challenging new phase of their relationship.”

Aselton shared with Deadline, “When Mark and I were brainstorming this concept, we were exploring what it would be like if we were to lose each other. I thought, ‘Well, I’ll still be here, and we’ll continue making fart jokes.’ I believe you would keep laughing with someone even after they are gone, and the notion that a piece of them remains with you is comforting. Ideally, that part is one that fills your heart with joy and helps you through the pain of grief.”
