Steve Carell's "Rooster" has been renewed for a second season.
HBO has announced the renewal of its popular comedy Rooster for a second season.
The series stars Steve Carell as an author-turned-professor attempting to connect with his daughter during her divorce from her husband, who also works at the same college, leading to additional tension and chaos among the faculty and students.
The show features a cast that includes Charly Clive, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, Danielle Deadwyler, Lauren Tsai, Connie Britton, Robby Hoffman, Annie Mumolo, Alan Ruck, and Rory Scovel. It was created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses.
Having premiered in early March, Rooster quickly became a major success for HBO, marking the network’s most-viewed comedy for a debut season in over ten years.
“We are incredibly thankful to Warner Bros. Television and HBO for being such wonderful partners and to Casey, Amy, and Channing for allowing us to continue producing this show with Steve and our fantastic cast. This has been a career highlight for both of us, though I think it’s more so for Matt,” Lawrence expressed.
The storyline centers around Carell’s character, Greg Russo, an author of sensational popular novels whose protagonist is named Rooster. He arrives at the college where his daughter, Katie (Clive), teaches and is facing a personal crisis, agreeing to take on a role as a guest lecturer in exchange for Katie's job security after she inadvertently sets her cheating husband’s (Phil Dunster) house on fire.
