Time and Water Trailer: Sara Dosa’s Celebrated Documentary Portrays the Erosion of Life and Nature.
Reuniting with National Geographic Documentary Films after her Oscar-nominated film Fire of Love, Sara Dosa is back at the Sundance Film Festival with Time and Water. Scheduled for a global theatrical launch on May 29, with a subsequent release on National Geographic and Disney+ later this year, the first trailer has been unveiled.
Here’s the synopsis: “In TIME AND WATER, acclaimed Icelandic poet and author Andri Snær Magnason seeks something intangible. As the glacial ice of his homeland continues to melt, he creates a time capsule to preserve this moment and relay it to the future before everything he holds dear vanishes. Through his own collected archives, photographs and films from his grandparents, along with traditional songs and folktales, Andri intertwines his family's narrative with the story of the surrounding land. The film serves as a universal meditation on the significance of home and what it means to exist amidst significant epochal transformations.
Dan Mecca remarked in his review, “Iceland is rich in history of which its inhabitants take great pride. The glaciers are a vital part of that history, and they are disappearing at an alarming rate due to climate change. While this information is not new, the accelerating pace of their disappearance is increasingly concerning. Time and Water is presented as a time capsule intended for those who endure the significant, tragic changes that lie ahead. Dosa excels in establishing tone within the documentary genre, a key aspect of her previous work, Fire of Love, a love story set against the backdrop of perilous volcanoes, which received an Oscar nomination a few years back.”
