Time and Water Trailer: Sara Dosa's Esteemed Documentary Portrays the Erosion of Life and Nature
Reuniting with National Geographic Documentary Films after her Oscar-nominated documentary Fire of Love, Sara Dosa has returned to the Sundance Film Festival with her latest work, Time and Water. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release starting May 29, followed by availability on National Geographic and Disney+ later this year. The first trailer has now been released.
Here’s the synopsis: “In TIME AND WATER, celebrated Icelandic poet and author Andri Snær Magnason is pursuing something fleeting. As the icy glaciers of his homeland are melting, he creates a time capsule to preserve this moment and send it to the future, before everything he cherishes disappears. Drawing from his own archives, photographs and films from his grandparents, along with traditional songs and folktales, Andri intertwines his family's narrative with that of the surrounding landscape. The film serves as a universal meditation on the significance of home and the essence of life amidst significant transformative changes.
In a review, Dan Mecca noted, “Iceland is rich in history, of which its inhabitants are immensely proud. The glaciers are a vital part of that history, currently retreating at an alarming rate due to climate change. While this information isn’t new, the accelerating pace of their disappearance is becoming increasingly concerning. Time and Water is presented as a time capsule meant for those who will endure the coming great and tragic transformations. Dosa excels at setting the tone in the documentary genre, a key aspect of her previous film Fire of Love, which showcased a romance set against perilous volcanoes and received an Oscar nomination a few years back.”
