Exclusive trailer and poster for Bruno Dumont's Red Rocks showcase the experience of growing up on the French Riviera.
Following his bold venture into more serious sci-fi with The Empire, Bruno Dumont is making a return to coming-of-age cinema with his much-anticipated selection for Directors’ Fortnight, Red Rocks. The film follows two groups of children on the French Riviera throughout the summer as they navigate developing friendships and initial attractions. In anticipation of its world premiere on May 20, we are excited to exclusively unveil the first trailer and poster.
Featuring cinematography by Carlos Alfonso Corral, a frequent collaborator of Roberto Minervini, the trailer promises a different tone for Dumont compared to his recent works, capturing a vibrant energy that reflects the youth of the characters. The cast includes Kaylon Lancel (Géo), Kelsie Verdeilles (Eve), Louise Podolski (Manon), Mohamed Coly (Rouben), Alessandro Piquera (B), and Meryl Pires (Do), with a runtime of 91 minutes.
The synopsis reads: “Set on the French Riviera, two gangs of children engage in the risky game of cliff jumping. Over the summer, Géo, who is only five years old, discovers a world where friendship intertwines with competition, and where the early inklings of love emerge against the stunning backdrop of the Mediterranean.”
“Red Rocks signifies a new phase in his film career,” stated the Directors’ Fortnight team. “Filmed on the French Riviera with very young performers, the film takes on a documentary-style approach, notably through the intentional use of wide-angle lenses. Once again, Dumont delves into the beauty that can arise from cinema.”
