Michael Bay will direct a film centered on the rescue of U.S. pilots who were shot down in Iran.
Michael Bay is preparing to direct another film inspired by actual U.S. military operations by adapting an upcoming book that illustrates the rescue of two pilots who were shot down behind enemy lines in Iran.
As reported by Deadline, the director of Transformers and Bad Boys will once again draw from a Mitchell Zuckoff book, following his 2016 film adaptation of 13 Hours. That action-packed film, featuring John Krasinski, received some of the best reviews of Bay’s career and achieved a worldwide gross of $70 million.
Zuckoff's upcoming novel, set to be published by HarperCollins in 2027, narrates the story of two U.S. airmen shot down during Operation Epic Fury and the dangerous rescue effort that ensued in Iran’s Zagros Mountains.
The movie will also see Bay collaborate again with Universal Pictures, who supported his previous film, 2022's well-received action movie Ambulance, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which earned over $50 million at the box office after the pandemic.
Regarding the project, Bay expressed to Deadline that the "film is about everyone who answered the call during one of the most intricate and high-stakes operations in recent history. It honors the true heroism and steadfast commitment of our service members."
