Michael Bay set to helm a film centered on the rescue of U.S. pilots shot down in Iran.
Michael Bay is set to direct a new film based on actual U.S. military operations, adapting an upcoming book that chronicles the rescue of two pilots shot down behind enemy lines in Iran. According to Deadline, the director of Transformers and Bad Boys will again draw from a Mitchell Zuckoff book, following his successful 2016 adaptation of 13 Hours. That film, which starred John Krasinski, received some of the best reviews of Bay's career and earned $70 million globally.
Zuckoff’s upcoming novel, which HarperCollins is scheduled to publish in 2027, recounts the story of two U.S. airmen who were downed during Operation Epic Fury and the dangerous rescue mission that ensued in Iran's Zagros Mountains.
The film will also mark a reunion for Bay and Universal Pictures, who supported his previous film, 2022's well-received action movie Ambulance, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which grossed over $50 million at the box office after the pandemic.
Regarding the project, Bay stated to Deadline that the “film is about everyone who responded to the call during one of the most complex, intricate, and high-stakes operations in recent history. It honors the true heroism and steadfast dedication of our service members.”
