Will Poulter Tackles an American Crisis in the Initial Trailer for Union County
While Will Poulter had a lot of fun in I Love Boosters earlier this summer, his upcoming role is set to showcase his impressive dramatic range. Adam Meeks’ directorial debut, Union County, premiered at Sundance earlier this year and is set for release by Oscilloscope Pictures on August 14. The film follows Poulter and Noah Centineo as brothers coping with a community affected by the opioid crisis. The cast also includes Elise Kibler, Emily Meade, Annette Deao, and Danny Wolohan, and the initial trailer and poster have just been unveiled.
The synopsis reads: “Will Poulter and Noah Centineo deliver exceptional performances as brothers Cody and Jack Parsons, who each partake in a court-ordered drug rehabilitation program in a rural Ohio community severely impacted by the opioid epidemic. For the first time since their struggles began, they are filled with hope and supported by a dedicated counselor (Annette Deao) as they strive toward a brighter, sober future. Poulter and Centineo meld effortlessly with a predominantly non-professional supporting cast, sharing their real-life experiences, pain, and resilience as they navigate the program themselves. Ohio-native filmmaker Adam Meeks crafts a film rich in realism, offering an honest and compassionate portrayal of a battle being waged across America, highlighting the solidarity that emerges on its front lines.”
In his review, Jake Kring-Schreifels noted, “Last summer, amidst the fourth season of The Bear, Will Poulter made his way into the show's namesake Chicago restaurant, leaving the kitchen staff in awe of his looks. This reaction wasn’t particularly new for the tall British actor—over recent years, his striking blue eyes, angular physique, and charming accent have accustomed him to attention. Regardless of the supporting role, his presence alters the atmosphere in a room. However, in Union County, writer-director Adam Meeks’ confident feature debut, Poulter attempts a different approach. Portraying recovering drug addict Cody Parsons, he walks into a courthouse sporting a scruffy beard, messy hair, and slouched shoulders, dulling his vibrant aura to a more subdued appearance. No one around him pays him any mind, let alone gawks in surprise.”
