Marvel's Wonder Man cancelled even after a prior renewal for season 2.

      As Marvel approaches the end of the Multiverse Saga and the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio appears to be making some cuts. This includes the confirmation that the long-awaited Blade reboot, featuring Mahershala Ali, is no longer in development, along with news that the Disney+ series Wonder Man has been canceled, despite being renewed for a second season earlier.

      "News just came in that Wonder Man won’t be returning for Season 2 (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!)" shared star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays the lead role of Simon Williams, on social media. "That's just how it goes, right? Everything will fall into place. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED their enjoyment in any way. The show was a success, and that’s what I love about it. I could see it in the faces of the YouTube Reactors (because I watched along with you this time. Shoutout to you all), and I feel it in the heartfelt messages I receive from some of you, saying the show encouraged you not to give up. I sense that genuine love when I run into some of you throughout the day. So, I’m thinking of you all today. I’m thankful we were part of something special. Thank you for watching… And uh, see you at the EMMYS."

      The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (which is currently achieving a historic opening weekend with Spider-Man: Brand New Day), along with showrunner Andrew Guest (Hawkeye). Wonder Man featured Yahya Abdul-Mateen II alongside Ben Kingsley, who reprised his roles as Trevor Slattery from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi, and followed the duo of struggling actors as they sought roles in a Hollywood remake of the superhero franchise Wonder Man. The series debuted on Disney+ in January of this year and was initially announced as renewed in March. No explanation has been provided for the cancellation.
