Film Review – Yellow Eyes (2026)

      Yellow Eyes, 2026.

      Directed by Jesse Korman.

Featuring Nena Martins, Michael Kunicki, Jimmy Chung, Margo O’Connell, Brian Rooney, and Joette Waters.

      SYNOPSIS:

A young couple comes into possession of a house from an unknown relative, unaware that an ancient evil lies hidden within. As one partner becomes possessed, the other is compelled to seek an exorcist to liberate them.

Yellow Eyes unfolds like a traditional possession narrative but injects a thread of dark, twisted humor into the mix. Engaging, clever, and occasionally downright chilling, the story thrives by embracing its core concept: ancient rites and forgotten traditions returning to haunt the living.

The chaos begins when a cursed item, a prehistoric Mesopotamian idol, is unearthed in the excited couple's new home, Brad and Julia. Having just inherited the property from an unknown uncle, they soon realize that their ancient housemate expects them to earn their keep. As blood begins to flow, Brad undergoes a horrifying transformation. Michael Kunicki delivers a powerful performance, expertly blending frenzied energy with a strange humor as Brad spirals downward.

Julia, played by Nena Martins, is left to manage the aftermath. Martins effectively balances “WTF” shock with a weary resilience as she undertakes the daunting quest to locate an exorcist to rectify the situation. This supernatural turmoil upends her daily routine; Julia usually juggles her work as a hairdresser, dealing with demanding clients like Joette Waters’ character, a local woman eager to get glamorous for her return to dating. In a grimly ironic twist, she later visits the house for a much more surprising encounter.

Beyond the demonic happenings, the film also delves into the real-life horror of moving into a new home. Since the house is a bequest from a distant relative, the couple must confront a new level of legal property nightmare before the supernatural events even begin.

With all this in store, Yellow Eyes offers an entertaining experience for horror enthusiasts who enjoy a classic possession story with a modern twist. The set pieces are skillfully crafted, with a well-considered choreography in the film's chilling final moments. It operates somewhat like a zombie film, as individuals become possessed, drawing more friends and acquaintances into the chaos. This creates an unsettling yet familiar atmosphere throughout the project. Additionally, the makeup and visual effects are quite striking, with blood vividly contrasting against the predominantly dark environment of the house's depths.
