It has been officially announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been renewed for a third season on Prime Video. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third season is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin at the show's new location, Shepperton Studios in the UK.
The finale of the second season will air in October 2025, concluding a series of episodes that many viewers believe has improved upon the extravagant first season. Fans had been eager for news, and now it has arrived, including the revelation that The Rings of Power will feature a significant time jump of several years.
The official synopsis for season 3 states: “Set several years after the events of season 2, season 3 occurs at the peak of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord aims to forge the One Ring to gain the advantage needed to triumph in the war and dominate all of Middle-earth.”
Prime Video has also unveiled the directorial roster for the upcoming season, with Charlotte Brandstrom from Shogun returning alongside Sanaa Hamri from The Wheel of Time. Joining the team of directors is Stefan Schwartz from The Boys.
