George Miller hints at Mad Max: The Wasteland with a finished script.

George Miller hints at Mad Max: The Wasteland with a finished script.

George Miller has spent the years following his 2015 action blockbuster, *Mad Max: Fury Road*, hinting at further explorations in the franchise's apocalyptic universe, with his latest film being the prequel *Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga*. He has now suggested a return to the wastelands with a completed script for a new installment in the *Mad Max* series.

Miller has frequently expressed his eagerness to direct another adventure featuring Max Rockatansky, which he has titled *Mad Max: The Wasteland*. In an interview with Vulture, Miller disclosed that he has written a script for the next *Mad Max* film, although it may not be the immediate project he pursues, as he has several other concepts competing for attention.

“We’ve got another script,” Miller shared with the outlet, “But having been at this for a long time and being accustomed to storytelling, I realize I have an overwhelming number of stories — not just in my mind but also in the form of screenplays or at least detailed notes that are close to becoming screenplays. I’m essentially a professional daydreamer. This was considered a significant drawback in my youth: ‘George would perform better in school if he didn’t daydream so much’ was a comment on my report card.”

“There are many stories,” Miller elaborated. “One of them is indeed a *Mad Max*. It’s not what I would do next, as there are two other projects I'm eager to tackle first. However, if circumstances align, you just never know. Too often, you’re set to make a movie, and then something changes. Some things come together, and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.”

One factor that may influence Miller's choice to make *Mad Max: The Wasteland* his next project is the poor box office performance of *Furiosa*. Despite receiving high ratings from critics and audiences, the film grossed only $173.8 million globally against a budget of $168 million, although it has found success on streaming platforms and home video. The film serves as a prequel to *Fury Road*, following a young Furiosa, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, as she is taken from her home by Chris Hemsworth’s character Dementus and ultimately finds her place in Immortan Joe’s army.

We will have to wait to see whether Miller is able to bring *Mad Max: The Wasteland* to fruition as his next project or if he will take a hiatus from the apocalyptic desert to pursue one of his other original ideas.
