David Arquette is set to reprise his role as Dewey in Scream 7.
Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley are not the only deceased characters making a comeback in Scream 7, as Deadline reports that David Arquette will once again take on his iconic role as Dewey Riley in the much-anticipated film. Arquette was one of the original cast members in the first Scream, portraying a Deputy in Woodsboro who attempted to assist the police and Sidney in capturing the Ghostface killer. He reprised this role in all the films leading up to 2022’s Scream, where he ultimately met his end at the hands of the latest Ghostface.
The specifics of how Dewey will return remain unclear, but this isn’t the first instance of the Scream franchise resurrecting a character. In Scream 3, Jamie Kennedy made a posthumous cameo as Randy through a pre-recorded message directed to Sidney in the event of his death. Additionally, in the previous Scream, Melissa Barrera’s Sam experienced hallucinations of Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis as she grappled with the fear of becoming a killer like her father.
Arquette will join fellow legacy members of the Scream franchise, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, alongside Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown from both Scream and Scream VI. Newcomers to the franchise in this installment include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.
The seventh installment of Scream is directed by Kevin Williamson, who created and wrote the original film directed by Wes Craven in 1996. Producing the film are James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment, who also worked on 2022’s Scream and Scream VI.
Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
