Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Deneuve, Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel, and others will feature in Asghar Farhadi's Parallel Tales.
Asghar Farhadi's initial forays into international filmmaking with the French-set The Past, featuring Bérénice Bejo and Tahar Rahim, and the Spanish-language drama Everybody Knows, starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, did not quite match the level of his greatest works. However, he is set to make another attempt. Following his 2021 Cannes Grand Prix winner A Hero, he has revealed plans for his next feature, which will be shot in France and boasts a notable cast.
According to Variety, Parallel Tales will star Isabelle Huppert, Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel, Pierre Niney, and Adam Bessa, with Catherine Deneuve making a "guest appearance." Filming is scheduled to commence in Paris this fall, with a release planned for spring 2026 in France, positioning it for a potential premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next year.
While specific plot details have yet to be released, audiences can anticipate another intricately woven, emotionally charged drama from the director, who has stated he will refrain from making films in Iran until the authoritarian regime halts its oppression and censorship.
