**Dawson City: Frozen Time** (Bill Morrison)
A scholarly theory suggests that films continuously narrate the story of their creation, echoing an eternal song about their past. This idea was particularly relevant in 1978 when construction worker Frank Barrett stumbled upon strips of nitrate film protruding from the ground at the site of a new recreation center in Dawson City, Yukon—like persistent flowers defying winter's harshness. Unbeknownst to them, children were using the exposed strips for kindling, effectively erasing a part of history in their quest for a pyrotechnic spectacle. Barrett's remarkable find culminated in the recovery of over 500 reels containing films from the 1910s and 1920s. Given that it is estimated that 75% of silent films are lost, this discovery could represent a pivotal moment in film archaeology. Director Bill Morrison crafted *Dawson City: Frozen Time* by incorporating clips from these reels and unraveling the mystery of their burial in Yukon, potentially creating the ultimate found footage film. – Jose S. **Eddington** (Ari Aster)
In *Eddington*, Ari Aster’s latest descent into despair, the proposal for a data center in remote New Mexico serves as the trigger for a long-overdue mental collapse. The protagonist, Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix), grapples with various troubles, including a worryingly active mother-in-law (Deirdre O’Connell), a disinterested, catatonic spouse (Emma Stone), a progressive mayor (Pedro Pascal) intent on establishing a state-of-the-art data center, and the typical challenges posed by COVID-19. If the mere mention of this term brings discomfort, it is by design: since redefining the horror genre with A24, Aster has emerged as cinema’s champion of paralyzing anxiety. While *Hereditary* is often recalled for its shocking decapitation scene, it seems that Aster's greatest fear now may be whether his protagonist, an artist facing an impending exhibition and anxiously awaiting a benefactor, can meet her deadline. – Rory O. **The Legend of Ochi** (Isaiah Saxon)
*The Legend of Ochi*, penned and helmed by Isaiah Saxon, is a charming adventure crafted from imagination and artistry. It certainly feels like a film with lasting appeal. With minimal dialogue and an emphasis on style, the story revolves around a small village on the island of Carpathia, where residents live in fear of the Ochi, a seemingly menacing primate that haunts the nearby woods. Willem Dafoe plays Maxim, a warrior elder entrusted with training the village’s children to confront these dreaded beasts, including Petro (Finn Wolfhard) and his own daughter Yuri (Helena Zengel). When Yuri encounters an injured baby Ochi, she chooses to nurture the creature and return it to its home, necessitating her escape from Maxim and his militaristic methods. – Dan M. (complete review)

**Sick of Myself** (Krisoffer Borgli)
From the outset of *Sick of Myself*, which presents an awkward birthday dinner, the power dynamics between the young couple Signe (Kristine Kujath Thorp) and Erik (Eirik Saether) are clearly defined. Erik is gaining attention through new magazine features and gallery showcases with his seemingly mediocre, ill-defined artwork. In contrast, Signe, still working in a café and unable to indulge in luxuries like a $2,300 bottle of wine given as a gift during their expensive dinner, finds herself consumed by jealousy. – Ethan V.
