Drac and Mavis are set to make a comeback in The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania.
Prepare for a return to Hotel Transylvania next year as Sony Animation and Amazon MGM have announced that a fifth film in the series, titled The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania, is set to premiere in theatres on October 8th, 2027. This new installment follows the events of the 2022 release, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, where Drac finally retires, passing the hotel’s management on to his daughter Mavis. The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania will feature the iconic castle and monster resort confronting an unusual haunting. Given the hotel's guests, it must be quite a peculiar and perilous spirit for it to alarm Drac, Mavis, and the other visitors. The official synopsis states:
Drac has comfortably embraced retirement while Mavis takes charge of the famed monster hotel. However, when a series of eerie and mysterious events sends shivers throughout the resort, the Drac Pack embarks on their most enchanting adventure yet: solving the mystery behind the haunting at Hotel Transylvania.
Sony and Amazon collaborated on Hotel Transylvania: Transformania during the COVID pandemic to allow the film to debut on Prime Video instead of in theatres. As part of that arrangement, Amazon MGM agreed to co-produce any subsequent installments in the franchise. Sony will manage the theatrical distribution in North America and select international markets, while Amazon MGM will handle the international release.
The series has included the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Asher Blinkoff, Kathryn Hahn, and Mel Brooks. Sandler could not voice Dracula in Transformania due to scheduling conflicts, nor could Kevin James portray Frankenstein, leading to their roles being filled by Brian Hull and Brad Abrell. The voice cast for The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania has not yet been announced, leaving it unclear if Sandler, James, or any of the original cast members will return.
"From the start, Hotel Transylvania has welcomed audiences into a realm where monsters feel like family," expressed Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville, Presidents of Sony Pictures Animation. "These films have been fundamental to Sony Animation’s storytelling ethos, combining a distinctive visual style with heartfelt, character-driven humor. With this next chapter, we aim to honor that legacy of warmth and laughter while providing the unexpected twists that audiences cherish. We are excited to partner with Amazon MGM Studios to bring the Drac Pack back to theaters for families worldwide."
"Hotel Transylvania is one of those exceptional franchises that has become a cherished tradition for families around the globe—a film series that has consistently merged irreverent humor with genuine warmth. We are excited to work with Sony Pictures Animation to bring the Drac Pack back to the big screen and continue this legacy of creative, character-focused storytelling that audiences have embraced for more than a decade," stated Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film for Amazon MGM Studios.
The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania is set to be released on October 8th, 2027.
