Prime Video reveals a first glimpse of Mike Flanagan’s series based on Carrie.
Prime Video has unveiled an initial look at Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s (Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep) reimagining of Stephen King’s debut novel from 1974.
Summer Howell stars in the lead role as high school outcast Carrie White, alongside a cast that includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tota as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. In this fresh adaptation, misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life confined within her home under the care of her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). Following the sudden death of her father, Carrie is thrust into the harsh reality of public high school, confronting a viral bullying incident that sweeps through her community, the ongoing pressures and casual cruelty of social media, and the emergence of her mysterious telekinetic abilities that develop with her coming-of-age.
The story unfolds over eight gripping episodes, expanding on King's cultural classic by delving deeper into its characters and conflicts, and chronicling the seemingly minor choices that lead up to an earth-shattering night. It presents a compelling, deeply human narrative that examines the battle between kindness and cruelty, raising questions about whether we are witnessing the birth of a hero, a monster, or something much more nuanced.
Carrie is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video this autumn.
