The animated series "Avatar: Seven Havens" will carry on the franchise with its original creators.
The franchise of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to expand with a new animated series titled Avatar: Seven Havens. Taking place after The Legend of Korra, with original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko back at the helm, Seven Havens follows the new Avatar during a catastrophic event that has led to a lack of trust in the Avatars.
Avatar: Seven Havens depicts a world "shattered by a devastating cataclysm." A young Earthbender realizes she is the new Avatar following Korra, but in this perilous time, her title brands her as a destroyer of humanity rather than a savior. Pursued by both human and spirit foes, she and her long-lost twin must discover their enigmatic roots and rescue the Seven Havens before the last remnants of civilization fall.
Avatar: The Last Airbender originally debuted in 2006. In this universe, individuals can manipulate the elements of air, water, earth, and fire, but only a designated Avatar can master them. Each generation, fate selects a new Avatar, cycling through the four elemental nations. The original series centered around Aang, a young airbender chosen as the Avatar, while The Legend of Korra focused on the waterbender Korra, who assumed the title.
Avatar: Seven Havens will be developed by Avatar Studios in the franchise’s customary 2D format. Currently, it is planned as a 26-episode series divided into Book 1 and Book 2, with DiMartino and Konietzko serving as executive producers alongside Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi.
"When we initially created the original series, we never anticipated we would still be expanding this world decades later," remarked DiMartino and Konietzko. "This new version of the Avatarverse is filled with fantasy, mystery, and an entirely new cast of incredible characters. Prepare for another epic and emotional adventure!"
"For twenty years, the intricately crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has captivated audiences with its compelling characters and groundbreaking narratives, drawing fans from around the globe," stated Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. "We are excited to embark on the next chapter of this monumental saga, featuring a new story within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko."
This announcement marks the latest development in the Avatar franchise. Alongside Netflix's live-action adaptation of the animated series and various spin-off novels featuring previous Avatars, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon are also creating three animated films related to Avatar: The Last Airbender, with the first project focusing on Aang during the years between The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. This film is set to be released in theaters on January 30, 2026.
