Following his 2022 film The Banshees of Inisherin, Martin McDonagh is back with Wild Horse Nine, featuring John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey. Although the film isn't set to be released until November 6, Searchlight Pictures has begun promotional efforts by revealing the first trailer.

The synopsis reads: “Just prior to the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA operatives Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell) are sent from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi). Amidst the Island's famous statues, Chris and Lee confront their troubling histories and ongoing conspiracies, while Chris’s emerging connection with two rebellious students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas) threatens to derail everyone’s journey to this secluded paradise.”

“It’s a very funny script, though quite dark,” Malkovich shared with Vanity Fair. “Life is full of regret and sorrow; even if you can accept that and find humor in it, it generally doesn’t change the fact that life tends to end poorly.”
